Manual Transmission
Many people think that cars with manual transmission (also known as standard transmission, or stick shift) are a thing of the past. Others are simply intimidated by the idea of learning how to drive a car with manual transmission. In reality, cars with manual transmission are common all over the world, and they have been proven to be safer, more durable, and more fuel efficient than cars with automatic transmission. A manual vehicle gives the driver more control, significantly decreases distracted driving, and almost eliminates the possibility of driving under the influence. Both hands and feet are required to operate a car with manual transmission, which prevents the driver from holding a cell phone in one hand for talking and texting. Driving a car with manual transmission requires the driver’s full attention and focus.
At Driven2Drive, we strongly recommend and encourage all of our students, especially teens, to learn how to operate a manual transmission. Parents should also consider having their teen’s first car be a manual transmission vehicle to inhibit distracted driving and instill safer driving habits for life. Lastly, for all those who travel abroad, knowing how to operate a manual transmission can be very useful. Manual transmission vehicles are more common outside of the US, so knowing how to drive them can help decrease car rental costs and provide more opportunity for travel and discovery.
At Driven2Drive, we collaborate with our European counterparts to teach the latest cutting-edge curriculum for driving manual transmission. Our safe and comprehensive program is the best way to learn this useful skill.

Au Pair
Driving is something we may do for pleasure in our free time, or just to get from one place to another. But for some, driving is closely associated with their occupation or career. Au pairs, nannies, governesses, chauffeurs, livery drivers, transporters, and many more are responsible for safely and efficiently transporting precious cargo. They are also responsible for safeguarding and not damaging the vehicles that they are entrusted with to fulfill their duties.
Law, efficiency, caution, defensive driving, geographic acumen, vehicle handling, and evasive driving maneuverability—these are just some of key terms commonly associated with the responsibility of driving professionally. The Driven2Drive comprehensive curriculum covers the terms mentioned above and many more. Our expert instructors also provide in-depth instruction on topics that include:
- Physics of Driving
- Vehicle Checks
